I am Carmela, a previvor-turned-breast cancer thriver.
I created Previvior2Survivor to help others by sharing my personal experiences and to provide the information that I was desperately searching for when I learned that I was a BRCA1 carrier (and later diagnosed with Stage 3, Triple Negative Breast Cancer).
When I first learned I carried a BRCA mutation I felt helpless and spent hours researching risks and what to expect with a mastectomy. Looking back, I did not have all the information I needed which delayed my surgery.
What I struggled to find most were personal recounts of other young previvors which is my motivation for sharing my experiences.
I began sharing my personal experiences on Instagram to help spread awareness to young women of the importance of self-exams and have created this blog as a platform to share more information to previvors and breast cancer survivors.
Reframing my outlook has been incredibly important during my experience with breast cancer. In sharing my journey I hope to inspire your self-advocacy, empower your positive mindset and help you navigate your breast cancer journey
Previvor is a person with an inherited risk of developing breast or ovarian cancer.
BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes suppress tumors. Mutations in the BRCA genes can resulted in breast and ovarian cancers. .
